Our first sew-in of the year

It was a day with lots of activity at the Nanaimo North Library.  The facility is well lit and has LOTS of plugs.  We were busy as bees and had fun with Christine demonstrating to some us newbies how to paper piece.  Our next sew-in is November 18.  Join us!

Our May meeting - fun and informative

Karen, a lawyer, gave us a very spirited, humorous and informative update on copyrights, derivatives, etc. and how it impacts us as quilters.  In the U.S. the annual (2014)value of quilting was $3.76 BILLION.  That's right - $3.76 Billion---- and this is why intellectual property has become so important for quilters.

See the article from Susan Carlson (http://susancarlson.com/2017/05/06/copyright/)

For Show and Share Johann brought the quilt that she made from her daughter's t-shirts accumulated over the years that her daughter competed nationally and internationally.

Carly showed her "quilt-as-you-go" and there was much discussion on how that was achieved.
Carly also showed a set of placemats that she is making as a wedding present.  Lovely work.

Sew-in's are always fun!

Saturday's sew-in was fun with 5 of us working on our projects. Becky showed us how to make cross-cut blocks so you don't have to match the strips.  Yeahhh!
